How it Works
You can visit a gastroenterology doctor through a two-way monitor at your local clinic. This service is provided by Avel eCare Specialty Clinic. Your provider will identify if a virtual visit is an option for you.

- When it’s time for your appointment, check in at Krohn Clinic.
- A Black River Health nurse will bring you to an exam room, review your health information, and obtain any necessary vital signs. The nurse will connect you with the gastroenterologist via video.
- During the appointment, you will be able to talk to and see your gastroenterologist like any other in-person visit. A trusted nurse will be in the room to support you, assist with the exam as needed, answer questions, and help ensure your concerns are fully addressed.
- A summary of your visit will be given to your referring doctor.

We are a CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) accredited lab. Because of our extensive test menu, most of our laboratory testing volume is able to be processed on-site, offering convenience and prompt results for our patients and providers. A screening colonoscopy may be recommended as a screening test for colorectal cancer. Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States. A colonoscopy may also be recommended by your doctor to evaluate for symptoms such as bleeding and chronic diarrhea.

Upper Endoscopy (EGD)

Upper endoscopy lets your doctor examine the lining of the upper part of your gastrointestinal tract, which includes the esophagus, stomach and duodenum (the first portion of the small intestine). Your doctor will use a thin, flexible tube called an endoscope, which has its own lens and light source, and will view the images on a video monitor. Upper endoscopy helps your doctor evaluate symptoms of upper abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or difficulty swallowing.
