Black River Health Now Accepting Volunteen Program Applications

Apr 1, 2026

Summer volunteer program for high school students at Black River Health

Applications are now available for the 2026 Summer Volunteen Program sponsored by the Volunteers of Black River Health (BRH). Students must be 14 to 18 years of age to apply. Volunteen application forms are available online at https://blackriverhealth.com/. The registration deadline is May 15, 2026.

Students must commit to volunteering a minimum of four hours each week and attend a training/orientation session. Orientation will be Tuesday, June 9, from 11:30 a.m. until approximately 3:30 p.m. at the hospital. Applicants will be contacted if the date changes.

BRH Volunteens assist in greeting and escorting patients and visitors, delivering mail, staffing the information desk, and assisting departments with various duties.

One benefit of the Volunteen Program is "shadowing," in which Volunteens have the opportunity to spend time with someone in a particular profession they wish to explore. Examples of areas students can shadow include but are not limited to: nursing, laboratory, rehab therapy, dietary, and radiology.

The objectives of the Volunteen Program are to broaden students' abilities to interact with other people in a professional environment; learn to handle responsibilities; experience the satisfaction of helping others; gain a sense of self-worth and self-esteem; build confidence; get an inside look at health careers; learn work ethics; and develop work skills.

The Volunteen Program is sponsored by the Volunteers of BRH. For more information about the program, contact Sarah Osegard at osegards@blackriverhealth.com or call 715-284-3606.
