BLACK RIVER FALLS – A new inpatient pharmacy, waiting area, and restrooms for the medical-surgical unit is now available for Black River Health patients at Black River Memorial Hospital.
The new inpatient pharmacy space will provide medications for patients on the medical-surgical unit and infusion center within the hospital. The new waiting area features an engraved glass display that was relocated from the old waiting area, and a meditation room with a live moss wall. The engraved glass display and furnishings were made possible through a generous donation from the Black River Falls Area Foundation with funds from the Gaylord and Clara Emerson/Pine View Endowment Fund.
“This facility upgrade was an important step in ensuring our patients receive the best in care and their families have a comfortable place to unwind when they stay at Black River Memorial Hospital,” said Carl Selvick, CEO of Black River Health.
Important features of the new space include:
- The inpatient pharmacy is able to compound hazardous medications, such as chemotherapy drugs for the infusion center, while adhering to the highest safety standards
- Several security, storage, and air handling upgrades were made to the inpatient pharmacy
- The new waiting room, meditation area, and restrooms are now closer to the medical-surgical unit
- A donor-funded engraved glass display that was in the old lounge continues to be in use in the new waiting area
- The renovation occurred within the current hospital walls, resulting in a better use of space, and limited expense in comparison to increasing the building size
The inpatient pharmacy is only able to serve patients staying at Black River Memorial Hospital for intensive care, medical care, surgical care, or infusions. All patients are able to access the Black River Health Pharmacy located at the Krohn Clinic main entrance Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to noon for your everyday retail pharmacy needs.
Market & Johnson served as the general contractor and HSR Associates, Inc. served as the architect on the project.
